An old fisherman in a small boat catches a huge swordfish, which drags him out to sea. For three days he keeps the fishing line tensioned. Now who has caught whom? The struggle with the endlessness of time and landscape, an exhausted body and a fight to the death connects the fish and the fisherman. But in the end one of the two has to give up the fight.
